The ATA Carnet system has now accepted the third country from Latin America, Brazil, to allow carnets to be issued. The other two countries are Mexico and Chile. Brazil is the 75th country to accept ATA Carnets. This news is just in time for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. ATA Carnets will now allow vendors to import goods duty and tax free into Brazil.

ATA Carnets serve as international customs documents that allow goods intended to be temporarily shipped into a country, to be processed duty free and tax free while concurrently simplifying standard customs entry procedures.

Carnets accept virtually all types of goods, both cargo shipped and hand carried, as long as they fit into one of three main categories:

International Trade Regulation Updates

Dated customs rules are costing freight forwarders millions of dollars a year in international trade

by reducing the efficiency at which they can move their products in and out of the United States. Moreover, it is continuous customs modernization that is necessary for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to have the required resources to safeguard America’s borders while improving commerce imported and exported from the United States. The proposed Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 is intended to reduce red tape and streamline the clearance process, allowing forwarders to deliver market goods at a faster rate. An updated version of this bill now awaits congressional approval and is set to be reviewed early January.

But before shipping high-end luxury cars, there are a few preparations that need to be made before the vehicle is shipping-ready!

 

The first rule of thumb to shipping a lux vehicle is to make sure that it is completely empty. Only factory-installed equipment must be present in the car. You may think it’s proper to top off the gas tank, but regulation states your vehicle may only be allowed to have ¼ of a tank max.

 

In the weeks prior to the shipment, keep an eye on the vehicle and make note of its current condition. If there are any problems such as leaks or mechanical malfunctions, write them down so that you can provide special instructions to your freight forwarder. This ensures that the shipment runs as cleanly and smoothly as possible.

 

Finally, determine the title of your vehicle. U.S. Customs requires the original title or the MSO (Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin).
